What is the Friends of Long Beach Water?

  • We are an informal group of organizations and individuals that have an abiding interest in water education and programs related to water in Long Beach.
  • We focus on many issues related to water including:
    • the history of water in the region and the development of water infrastructure and water policy
    • water conservation and efficient water usage
    • educational programs that focus attention on water
    • the critical need to make good decisions for our water future.

Who participates? 

An informal group of organizations with current or ongoing water programs including:

  • Public agencies including Long Beach Water Department, Metropolitan Water District, and Water Replenishment District
  • Private non-profits including the Historical Society of Long Beach
  • Both ranchos — Rancho Los Alamitos and Rancho Los Cerritos
  • Aquarium of the Pacific
  • The city of Long Beach through the Office of Sustainability and council offices

What do we do?

  • Support and promote city-wide and regional programs and projects related to water
  • Raise public awareness about water issues
  • Promote water conservation and efficient water usage
  • Provide educational programs that focus attention on water
  • Share information about each other’s programs to focus attention on water

How do we do this?

  • We are creating media outlets through our website dedicated to WaterMattersLB and social media
  • We are developing new public educational programs
  • We are engaged in water reclamation projects that showcase best water practices
  • We are accessing historical and current archives, records and resources 
  • We are collaborating, sharing and mutually promoting water education

Why do we do this?

We do this to draw attention to one of our city’s, state’s and planet’s most limited and critical resources We do this because WaterMattersLB
